Chief Winemaker, 3rd generation Geoff Johnston spends most of vintage in the vineyards tasting berries and looking for signs of the optimum Shiraz characters. Geoff has his indicator Shiraz vineyard which is the first Shiraz Block harvested, no matter what the conditions. Geoff helped plant this vineyard back in 1971, his first vintage alongside his father, Digby. As they say, “your wine is only as good as the fruit you harvest”, making harvest date the most important winemaking decision.
The 2019 vintage had below average yields, high quality, small berry, high concentrated Shiraz wines, due to unseasonal warmer, drier conditions producing a typical Pirramimma shiraz style wine.
With careful cellaring will further develop.
